As We Prepare the Celebration for the Birth of Jesus,
Consider all the giving that took place that First Christmas.
Our loving Father gave His only Son for us.
Mary and Joseph gave their trust, love, lives to God.
Some came from far to give worship and gifts to the Son of God.
In a world concerned more with receiving,
What will you give this Christmas?!

Prayer for Unborn Life: O God of life and love, You have given us the gift to participate with You to bring new life into the world. But, all too often, the mother's womb, which should be a nursery of life, becomes instead a place of it's destruction. Help us to...

· First Christmas secularization story of the year - [ 0 comments - 128 reads ]
Here we go.  The first Christmas secularization story of the year.

About 1,000 people showed up Sunday for the Patchogue Boat Parade of Lights. That's 500 fewer than usually showed up when it was called the Patchogue Christmas Boat Parade.

Brookhaven-based fireworks company Fireworks by Grucci dropped its sponsorship after the Greater Patchogue Foundation removed "Christmas" from the parade's name. The change was made after some residents complained the name wasn't inclusive enough.

Grucci vice president Philip Butler opposes the secularization of Christmas. His supporters encouraged area residents to stay away from the parade on Patchogue River.

Go Grucci!  I hope this story inspires others as we move into the Christmas season and continue the fight to keep Christ in Christmas.

· Assumption of Mar-August 15 - [ 0 comments - 448 reads ]
The Assumption of Mary is a feast that all Catholics should celebrate. We should celebrate this feast day with much joy because, God gave His only Begotten Son through the womb of a Virgin. This Virgin, Mary, after completed her heavenly life, was taken up to Heaven, by God's own grace. This is not the same as the Ascension...where Jesus ascended into heaven by His own power. The Assumption states that Mary was taken up to heaven by God, not of her own power.
This is such a broad feast day that nothing in here will do it justice. But suffice it to say, that what God has done to Mary in bringing her body and soul into Heaven, He hopes to do with us, just as long as we do His Will. Let us then be strongly devoted to Mary so we can have the joy of being in Heaven with her and the Holy Trinity, forever.
Amen. [Read More]
· Sts. John Jones and John Well-July 12 - [ 0 comments - 403 reads ]
Sts. John Jones and John Well draw very distinct parallels to each other. St. John Jones lived in the 15th century and John Well lived in the 16th century. They both entered into the Franciscan Order. St. John Jones was born Welsh, and had been imprisoned many times. He fled England and then returned during the peak of Queen Elizabeth's reign. He ministered to Catholics and then was imprisoned (again) and then finally executed in 1598.
John Well was born in England but was educated in Belgium. In 1648 he was ordained in Rome and entered the Franciscans. In 1656 he went to work secretly in England-When Catholics were excluded from the Parliament. He was imprisoned in 1678 and was executed a year later.
These saints never knew each other existed, and yet they did pretty much the same thing. There are no such things as coincidences. Maybe they are both telling us that it is okay to put yourself out there...and maybe that we are not alone in the work we do for God. These men certainly were not alone in the work they did for God. They were both witnesses to the Truth, even till death.
God Bless All of you,

· Patron Saint of Youth-St. Aloysious June 21 - [ 0 comments - 796 reads ]
St. Aloysius Gonzaga-Patron Saint of youth-(1568-1591)
St. Aloysius was born in the 16th century, amid the Black Death in Europe. He was born into a wealthy family, amid pleasures and privileges, yet all these things did not satisfy his heart. He was always known for his devotion and piety, even when he was a small child. One day, he read about the Jesuit priests in Spain, and felt he was called. His father refused to give his consent. He tried to pressure young Aloysius into staying into his vocation at the royal court...but to no avail. Finally, his father gave in. St. Aloysius became a priest. When he was younger, he was also known as a zealous penitent. He would fast, scourge himself,etc... When he became a priest, all that changed. He had to get used to eating at regular times and was not allowed to pray at certain times. With people falling sick from the plague, the Jesuits opened a hospital. They cared for all the sick there. Because of his exposure to the plague, St. Aloysius became very ill and died from the plague himself. He was only 23 years old.

Reflection: Why is St. Aloysius Gonzaga the patron of youth? What comes to mind is that he died at a young age, in the 'odor of sanctity'. While his peers were taking advantage of all the pleasures, Aloysius denied them. While people were being entertained by the court, Aloysius was praying. He did things out of the norm for someone who is born to privileges. He is the patron of youth because he would go out of his way to love God, even out of the norm. He is a model we can all look up to. [Read More]
